WINGS Phonics Decodables

WINGS Phonics Decodables

Jill McDougall, Amanda Graham, Nathan Kolic et al.

WINGS Phonics Decodables is designed for children, educators and guardians.
The guided instruction in the books gives details about the letter sounds and the process of decoding them.
The series focus is on foundational skills for phonological awareness, decodable phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. This instruction gives educators/guardians the ability to make sure that young readers progress fluently as confident learners.

Books are currently segmented into four sets (packs) so educators can build their program around students’ needs.

**Short-vowel Decodables 1.0**
Start with decodable consonants and the most common short-vowel sounds.

**Consonant-digraph Decodables 2.0**
Introduce the first digraph consonants.

Long-vowel Decodables 3.0
Continue with long-vowel diphthongs and r-controlled letters and sounds.

Long-vowel Decodables 4.0
Finish with r-controlled and silent e, long vowels and soft sounds.

The stories were created by Australian authors and illustrators using humour and entertaining imagery that adds meaning to the simple texts.
The WINGS Phonics Decodable readers are supported by academic research, teachers and developmental language specialists.

Simple, modern readers put decoding first, but keep children coming back.

Each book comes with teaching support for educators and guardians. This clear in-book instruction, structures the learning into easy-to-follow stages.
This allows educators and guardians to introduce the letter sounds, segmenting sounds, decoding words and testing a student on comprehension and phonological awareness. This gets the most out of the books at no additional cost.

All books include Dr Susan Hill’s decodable sequence of sounds, so users know with confidence where they are in the program and what is coming next. The back of each book also shows the set number as a quick reference for busy teachers or experienced language specialists adapting the books to a current program.
